The parish church in Prečna, which stands on a slight hill above the local road Novo mesto – Straža, was built according to the plans of the architect Josip Vancaš from Sarajevo. Preparations for its construction began in 1894, when the parish priest Anton Šmidovnik announced to the people that instead of the old church of St. Elijah erected a new one, dedicated to St. Anton Padovanski. The new church was consecrated on 13 June 1910 by the Bishop of Ljubljana Anton Bonaventura Jeglič, and a week later it was at St. Anton's first parish blessing. Church of St. Anton Padovanski in Prečna was one of the first large church architectures built in the first quarter of the 20th century in Dolenjska, which replaced older medieval buildings.
