The hut stands in a shelter just below Pleša (1262 m), one of the peaks of Nanos, a high karst plateau that rises steeply above the Upper Vipava Valley. The beginnings of the hut date back to 1907, when the Ajdovsko-Vipavska branch of the SPD established a fund for the construction of the hut. In 1913, the fund was taken over by the newly established Vipava branch of the SPD, which also included mountaineers from Postojna, where the fund was also based; this year they bought the land on which Vojkova koča is now located. When these places came under Italy after World War I, the work of SPD branches in the area ceased. After the Second World War and after the unification of these places with the motherland, the old plans were realized by PD Postojna; the hut was ceremoniously opened on August 7, 1949. It was named after the national hero Janko Premrl-Vojko (1920-1943), who was born in Podnanos; in front of the hut stands his bust. In 1976, an extension was built and the cottage renovated. In the autumn of 1990, the hut was completely renovated inside and out and the equipment was partially replaced.

There is a beautiful view from nearby Pleše, where the RTV tower is. On the eastern side we see the Postojna basin with Postojna on the extreme eastern edge and Javorniki above it, and then there are mountains and peaks from the Crimea to the Posavje hills with Kum, Gorjanci and Kočevski Rog; on the south-eastern side there are extensive Snežnik forests with Snežnik, and behind there are Snježnik, Risnjak and other peaks of Gorski Kotar; in the south, at the crossing of the Postojna basin into the Vipava valley just below Nanos Razdrto, behind it rises Vremščica, on the left the hilly Brkini, on the right the view across the Karst to the Gulf of Trieste; on the west side is the karst plateau of Nanos, on the left below it is the Vipava valley with Ajdovščina and Vipava Cross and Trnovski gozd with Čavno on the north and the plateau of the Trieste-Komen karst with Trstelj on the south side of the valley; to the north there are first extensive forests on Hrušica, Nanos and Trnovski gozd, and then the view reaches the Julian Alps with Triglav, the Karavanke and the Kamnik Alps.
