Almost nothing reliable is known about Saint George, to whom the church in Riedlingen was consecrated, but the veneration of his person goes back a long way to early Christianity. A martyr who is equated with George is said to have lived in the third century.

Well known and widespread, however, is the legend of St. George slaying the dragon, usually he is depicted in paintings or as a statue as the conqueror of the monster.

The day of remembrance of the very popular George - he is among other things the patron saint of the English Kingdom - in the saints calendar is on April 23rd.

Catholic Parish Church of St. George ⛪

It was built on the highest point of the plateau above the Danube. The basement of the tower may have belonged to a castle fortification from before the city was founded, around 1255.

The three-aisled building impresses with its size. In 1486, the nave was extended by two bays and the basilica form with a gable roof over the central nave and pent roofs over the side aisles was abandoned on the outside, and a large canopy roof was placed over it. The approximately 30 square meter mural "Condemnation of Jesus" from 1589 is remarkable. The church interior was given its current appearance around 1960. The chancel window and picture panels are from Prof. Albert Burkart (Riedlingen/Munich) from the period between 1930 and 1962.
