All off Road, can be quite muddy in places (winter or after heavy rainfall). Makes for a nice summer ride for all the family, passing over Frays River Aqueduct and Colne River Aqueduct, passing the many bridges onto Bulls Bridge where this becomes the Paddington arm, this part of the canal is crossed by quite a few railway bridges, which must have been quite a sight in the days of the Steam Train. The third Aqueduct is found much further along passing over the North Circular towards Ealing, a noisy spot but I always like to take a moment to watch the cars zooming passed underneath, check how busy it is and a chance to take a drink of water.
At Ballot Box Bridge if you cross over here there is a children's play ground and a few picnic tables plus a toilet can be found by walking on up to the visitors centre.
The Towpath leads all the way into Camden and if you wish, onto Kings Cross, This is now the Regents Canal. Only boats may pass through the Islington Tunnel but there's only a short detour through the Angel (a great place to stop and eat at the many restaurants and Pubs of Upper Street), before continuing to Duncan Street (this is a very busy part of the canal), where the Grand Union can be followed once again and if so, Sustran's cycle route 1 can be picked up.
