"The cultural landscape area is dominated in the west by the Eltener Berg terminal moraine, which can be seen from afar. The collegiate church of St. Vitus was built around 970, and the mighty west tower was rebuilt after the Second World War. The area is almost identical to the former imperial territory of the imperial abbey. The Hochelten settlement was built in the immediate vicinity of the abbey, from which an avenue led to Niederelten. The medieval structure is still very easy to understand and allows the structures, avenues, rows of trees and hedges typical of the Lower Rhine to be experienced as a landscape ensemble."
