          August Wilhelm Anton Graf Neidhardt von Gneisenau, born on October 27, 1760. Along with Gerhard von Scharnhorst, he was one of the most important Prussian military reformers from the period 1806-1815. It became known for its defense of Kolberg, which lasted several months in 1807, the only fortress that withstood enemy attacks. There he offered successful resistance as commander of the fortress. He died of cholera on August 23, 1831 in Posen, as commander-in-chief. His marble statue, standing on a sandstone base, is surrounded by a wall with a temple gable. Behind this is a mausoleum that was built in his honor in 1841 and was inaugurated by the Prussian King 'Friedrich Wilhelm IV'. The remains of the field marshal rest in a bronze-colored sarcophagus. The anteroom of the mausoleum is characterized by white walls with red marble pilasters. The community of Sommerschenburg, with the support of the 'Generalfeldmarschall Graf Neidhardt von Gneisenau-Gesellschaft e.V.' is committed to preserving this monument and taking care of its value.
