    There used to be a hermitage here at Hexenley. In addition to interesting rocks, there are also small caves to be found. From above there is a view of the Kordeler Valley.

      The evening is approaching and we set off again for a short time “to the mountains”, climbing the Kauley.
      Because you absolutely have to see them, you can also enjoy the view of Kordel.
      “Around Kordel you will find a variety of red sandstone rocks and caves, including the Kaulay, the Geyersley and the Spitzley. The formation of these formations has a long history: About 230 - 220 million years ago today's southern Eifel lay on the edge of a larger sea. [...] While the Buntsandstein layers were tipped up, the Kyll dug deeper and deeper into the tectonically moved rock. This strongly eroding effect of the Kyll and its tributaries also contributed to the formation of the rocks near Kordel. However, Geyerley and other neighboring rocks (Hochburg, Spitzley, Korpesley, Kauley) were formed as mushroom rocks with rock walls up to 30 m high mainly through selective weathering (resistant layers over softer ones)."       The rocks, the almost organic formations are indeed impressive; we run over a loop of the Eifelsteig under the Kauley, then west around it and up.
