    In the northeast of Italy, in the border triangle between Austria, Italy and Slovenia, you will find one of the most beautiful railway cycle paths in Italy: the new cycle path on the old "Pontebbana" railway line. With funds from the EU, a 47-kilometer cycle path was created on the disused railway line from Tarvisio to Resiutta, which leads along the Fella river (canal valley / Valcanale) through the mountains of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Especially the section between Resiutta and Pietragliata is peppered with tunnels and bridges, the views of the river valley or the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. The route is very well developed and asphalted, even if a few shorter detours were necessary. 35 of the 50 kilometers are on the railway line. Only the bypass routes have some short uphill/downhill sections. The route is very well signposted, you can hardly get lost

      A wonderful piece of the Alps-Adriatic cycle path! Beautifully paved throughout and finally the stretch to Pontebba covered with fresh asphalt. It rolls wonderfully and the views are fantastic! There are so many photo stops along the way that you actually have to make! :) Enjoy the panorama.

                      I was lucky enough to ride the cycle path towards Pontebba. It was a continuous gradient, so you could roll or shoot towards Pontebba with little effort, enjoying the scenery. The asphalt is perfect, the mountains around you are very beautiful to look at. I wish all cycle paths were like this (slightly sloping, good asphalt and beautiful surroundings). I can imagine that the other direction is quite strenuous...
