The Cathedral of Ourense, dedicated to Saint Martin, is the main religious monument of the city. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, this temple has had the honors of a minor basilica since 1867, according to the Pontifical Brief of Pope Pius IX signed on June 30 of that year.

The cathedral is in the Romanesque transitional style of the 12th/13th. Built in the mid-19th century, it shows influences from the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The Cathedral Museum conserves a valuable processional cross formerly attributed to Enrique de Arfe, a jet cross (from a León workshop), a missal from 1494, the Missale Auriense, the Treasure of Saint Rosendo and a 17th-century processional monstrance .
