During a Turkish invasion in 1683, a monk from the nearby Kleinmariazell monastery wanted to bring a monstrance with the holy of holies to safety. Since the Turks were already close behind him, he threw them into the well. Immediately the steeds of the Turks fell to their knees and remained frozen. Sixty years later the monstrance was recovered and miraculously the host that had been in the water for so long was unharmed.
