During the German division, Staaken and Spandau were under British administration - until the British needed areas around Gatow for the construction of their military airport. Without further ado, they exchanged it with the GDR Weststaaken - and the Oststaaken could no longer go to their church, which from then on stood on the GDR territory. Only since reunification can all Staaken people use the church together.

The Alt-Staaken village church was built in the Middle Ages and has been redesigned several times over the centuries. During the GDR era it stood right in the border area next to a watchtower. In front of the church there is a cross with the dates of the separation in 1961 and the unification in 1990.
