The center of the historic city center is the spacious market square, which is characterized by half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries. Its unusual trapezoidal shape is due to topography: above the market square, the Ermstal and Elsach valleys merge and only from here does the Ermstal widen towards the Neckar foreland. The landscape therefore determines the shape of the square.

Numerous cafés and restaurants invite you to linger. The market square is now traffic-calmed, only the city bus line is allowed to drive over it.
On Wednesdays and Saturday mornings, a weekly market takes place on the market square from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Urach weekly market has a long tradition. It has existed for over 130 years, and today it mainly offers agricultural products. The market fountain in late Gothic style used to be the city's most important water dispenser and a meeting place for young and old. This tradition has been preserved and the market fountain is still the meeting point for public city tours on Sundays at 2 p.m. Source (BadUrach-Tourismus.de)
