The original stave church at Gol dates from the 13th century. and is now in the Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo. A faithful copy was erected at Gol. The new stave church is richly decorated. It is consecrated and is used for church services, weddings, baptisms and devotions. An exhibition shows the basic features of stave church architecture.
