      The monastery has existed since at least the 9th century. The place did not exist at that time. The monastery changed hands several times and also belonged to Strasbourg - to finance the construction of the cathedral there.

      In 1802/03, secularization ended the existence of the Schwarzach monastery; Baden took over the property and building complex. Parts of the abbot's jewels were reused in the Baden crown. Apart from the church, all that remains of the former monastery complex are a few administrative and commercial buildings with the monastery portal from the years 1761 to 1790.
      The current cathedral is the fourth church there and was completed around 1190. The church is the only large Romanesque building made of brick on the Upper Rhine. The older parts of the building are made of red sandstone. The current interior design is the result of a purification in the 1960s. You can read more here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Münster_Schwarzach

      But it's better if you drive there and read the information boards on site. That way you can also experience the place. It's also worth it because of the place, the monastery garden, etc.

          I can only confirm. For years I drive this beautiful place as a resting place again and again. But historically, the Münster has much to offer. A small museum and the Way of the Cross in the church should be looked at once.

              I can only agree, it has been a point of attraction on my tours for years.
              Simply a place to unwind.
              A Benedictine abbey used to be housed here in the Schwarzach Minster. The church has stood as seen here since the 11th century.
