In the nature reserve Ruhestetter Ried between the municipality of Wald and Herdwangen-Schönach, a new biotope was created in Sielmann's Biotope Association of Lake Constance in 2019. A 7,000 m² pond was created in around two months of construction.
“The new still water will be around 7,000 square meters. Two islands extend the shoreline, which provides habitat for numerous species. The pond is modeled with different depth zones and at points up to 3 meters deep and fed exclusively by groundwater. The northern area receives extensive shallow water zones and is therefore particularly valuable for amphibians and dragonflies. In addition to the water surface, local trees such as alder, birch and common oak will also offer a habitat for birds and other species in the future, so that the still water and its surroundings can be classified as a protected forest biotope in the future. ”- Sielmann Foundation
