The church square is framed by well-preserved half-timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, which used to be used as granaries. The buildings on the north side are used as apartments, those on the south side as a restaurant.

Bockhorst village church, which was built in the 13th century and was extensively renovated and expanded in 1893. Originally a Romanesque church, it now boasts a transept and space for over 400 believers.
A very special highlight is the impressive triumphal cross that was discovered during the renovation work. With a height of 3.50 meters and a width of 1.50 meters, it is a real eye-catcher! The cross shows Christ in a unique depiction - half alive, half dead - and wears the heavenly crowns as a sign of his triumph over mortality.
