At this point, you can choose to continue along the route or detour to the French Valley, a highly recommended stop even if you only go a short distance. If you're not staying at the Italian Camp, you can leave your luggage there to hike lighter.

If the trail isn't closed, you should hike at least as far as the French viewpoint and enjoy the view of the French glacier.
