St. Luzia parish church in Born
The name Born comes from the word Born "Brunnen, Quelle" and indicates the many existing sources. Born belonged to the municipality of Recht until 1977, since then it has been part of the large municipality of Amel.
Born is located on the Vennbahn, a former railway line from Aachen to Ulflingen in Luxembourg, as well as on the former line to Vielsalm that branches off here. The route to Vielsalm is connected to the Vennbahn by the Freiherr von Korff Bridge, a flyover structure. The bridge (completed in 1916, 11 arches, 285 m long, 18 m high) is named after the former district administrator of the Malmedy district, Baron von Korff.
To the west of the village runs the Autobahn 27, to which Born is connected via the exit Recht.
The Vennbahn line between Aachen and Ulflingen has been expanded into a cross-border cycling and hiking trail.
