The Markatal is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Friesoythe in the district of Cloppenburg and the municipality Vrees in the municipality of Werlte in the district of Emsland.

The nature reserve with the license plate NSG WE 150 is 100 hectares in size. Of this, 76 hectares are allocated to the district of Cloppenburg and 24 hectares to the district of Emsland. The nature reserve is to a large extent part of the FFH area "Markatal with Bockholter Dose".

The protected 3.5 km long valley of the Marka protects the undeveloped and thus preserved natural, meandering section of the Geestbachs with its lowland, in the transitional bogs and forests have been preserved. On Geestrand are still remnants of natural birch oak forest.

The area has been under conservation since June 30, 1984. Responsible lower nature protection authorities are the counties Cloppenburg and Emsland.

But that says little about what awaits you - maybe this will help you: You are driving on a good rolling farm track through pretty pristine countryside in the lowland area of the meandering Marka. A sense of "Yes, that's the nature!" makes you wide and you are well satisfied and feel inner balance. For that, I think, the way is worthwhile here. In between, highland cattle, goats and sheep graze, making sure that this is so beautiful here.
Close by are the foothills of the Eleonora Forest. Going, well worth it !!
