Dorset is littered with ancient barrows, burial chambers dating back to the Neolithic period. Perhaps few are so remarkably placed as the Winterbourne Poor Lot Barrows, a cluster of no less than 44. The group is on both sides of the A35 here but most are gathered on the south side, visible from the road and the two footpaths nearby.
