There is a pretty story behind the unusual name. The pedestrian bridge was originally built by a citizens' cooperative in 1890 to get from the city to Melsungen train station faster. From then on, every passer-by had to pay a usage fee of two pfennigs to the bridge keeper, who collected money in a specially built little house on the right-hand side of the Fulda. On the beautiful Fulda section there is also a pedal boat rental throughout the summer. Thanks to the sliding ramps on the stairs, today's free 🙂 crossing by bike is no problem.
