Het Onderste en Bovenste Bosch is located south of Eperheide on the top of the western valley wall of the Geuldal. The forest belt continues north of Eperheide and is then called Schweibergerbos. The Onderste Bosch is managed by Staatsbosbeheer while Natuurmonumenten manages the Bovenste Bosch. Here you will find the highest heathland in the Netherlands.

This heathland is not only the highest heathland in the Netherlands, it is also the only one that does not grow on sand. After the calcareous soil eroded away, a thick layer of flint was left behind. The heath itself consists of fairly young heather plants and is lovingly managed. As a result, there is somewhat little variation. Therefore, look for some open spots where you can see the flint. This not only provides an interesting foreground, but immediately shows the specialness of the place. There are three enormous pines on the heath. This is the 'obligatory' eye-catcher in the heath photos you take here.

The Bovenste Bosch, also written as Bovenste Bos, is a forest area in the municipality of Gulpen-Wittem in the Dutch province of Limburg. The forest is located southwest of Epen, past Terziet, against the Belgian border.
