    The Hausmannsturm is located in Neumärker Straße in Helmstedt. He is the oldest surviving city gate in Brunswick country. The Hausmannsturm was created square and has a height of 36 meters. The gate passage is characterized by a cross vault. The Hausmannsturm was already mentioned in 1286, but received its present appearance only in the first half of the 15th century as the last gate of the city wall ring. The Helmstedt city wall once had eight towers. Today, of these eight towers, four remain in remnants.
    The tower guard of the city Helmstedt was the Helmstedter Hausmann. He lived in the Hausmannsturm, where he was assisted by two apprentices and a trainee boy. He had to "blow off the hours" with his horn, to watch over fire safety and to announce impending dangers. On special occasions, he was obliged to "play up" with his helpers in the city.
    Even today, a Helmstedt Hausmann traditionally blows every Saturday from April to October from the Hausmannsturm at 12:00 a week.
    In the year 2002 the city administration had a dream room set up in the course of a renovation in the tower. In 2008, the city of Helmstedt installed a webcam on the building, which shows the course of the Neumärker Straße from the Hausmannsturm in the direction of the market
