The old, decaying bridge ruin in Forst (Lausitz) is a testimony from the Second World War. As with many other bridges on the Neisse, this bridge was destroyed in the last months of the war. Since then, this bridge stands as a silent reminder against the war.

The Neißesteg and Lange Brücke were built in the 1920s and replaced older wooden bridges. There was a distance of around 350 meters between the two bridges. Construction work on the new “Long Bridge”, which was right next to the existing one, began in July 1921. It was opened on December 17, 1922. The new bridge was three meters higher than the level of the previous buildings. The adjustment measures to the bridgeheads lasted until mid-1923 - only then could the previous building be demolished.
