The Schweckhausen moated castle, a moated castle complex in the style of the Weser Renaissance, had been owned by the von Spiegel family since the 14th century.
Schweckhausen Palace was built on a former Benedictine monastery.
The horseshoe-shaped manor house is a two-story solid building with half-timbered gables on the outside. The chapel wing on the south side has volute gables. The horse stable is on the north side, with the castle kitchen above it.
The dairy kitchen was located directly on the octagonal stair tower, on the ground floor. Completion of the castle in 1581, extensive conversions and extensions in 1780. In the middle of the 19th century the estate passed into the hands of the von Croy family.
Only the outdoor area can be visited.

The moated castle is a great destination for anyone who enjoys historical buildings. I was totally overwhelmed by the beauty of the old moated castle. You can complete the moated castle once. go around/drive to see everything. In June 2020 (i.e. at the time of my tour to the moated castle) the restoration of the moated castle is being worked on. It was partially armed and worked on. Other parts were already beautifully restored. The stairs in the entrance area to the park look very impressive, but definitely need to be renovated. I will definitely go back just to see the progress being made in restoring the moated castle.
A visit is definitely worth it!
