The Maas and the old tributary have made the area between Ooijen and Wanssum a special area. Traditionally, the river has shaped the landscape by leaving behind old stream channels and terraces. The river has largely determined its small-scale character, scenic value and natural diversity. The original water management is now again leading for the area. The old arm with the high water channels will become part of the Ecological Main Structure (EHS). The influence of the Maas in the area is increasing again, giving the area back its original dynamics. The restoration of the system in which river dynamics plays a key role also leads to new nature objectives. The development of nature and landscape is the starting point for extensive forms of recreation.

Work on the redevelopment of the area was completed in 2012. It is now nature's turn. We watch with excitement how nature develops and how the area is repossessed.
