With houses that look like they have been painted, Lohnstrasse invites you to take a walk back into Diepholz's past. It's the oldest street in town. It is believed that it was created at the end of the count's time, at the latest at the beginning of the 16th century. The row of houses with lovingly restored half-timbered houses gives the street its historic charm. Some of them are under monument protection.
The "Tuchmacher-Haus" is located at Lohnstrasse 2. It was first mentioned in a document in 1688 as "Bödecker's House" because it belonged to the Gals maker Hermann Osthagen von Bödecker. Later various families of cloth makers lived there, in particular the cloth maker Friedrich Schröder.
The association "Kultur im Tuchmacherhaus" fills the old building with new life with various cultural events such as readings, exhibitions, handicrafts and music. Weddings are also possible on Saturdays on request.
The clothmaker's house with a bookstore, a Klönstube and a pretty garden is open every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 2 pm to 6 pm (summer break July-August).
