Cancale, also known as the pearl of the Emerald Coast, has long been renowned for its oysters and shellfish, which can be enjoyed while admiring Mont Saint-Michel, in the middle of the bay.

.Cancale consists of two parts: the Bourg, which lies on a plateau above the steep coast, and the Houle, the port part, which lies at the foot of the cliffs. Cancale is a popular destination for visitors, who can enjoy the many restaurants specializing in seafood, especially oysters. The oyster beds are located between the Jetée de la Fenêtre and the Pointe du Hoc and can be seen at low tide. Cancale is also a town steeped in history: it was founded by the Breton monk Saint Méen in the 6th century, it supplied oysters to the French court in the 16th century, it was home to the “Terra-Neuvas”, sailors who went to Newfoundland to fish for cod in the 19th century, and it has a number of monuments, such as the Saint-Méen church, the chapel of Verger with its ship models, and the tower Solidor with its maritime museum.
