At this point is the entrance to an old slate tunnel. Slate and hard coal have been mined at the same site since 1773. In 1868 the "Société forestière du Gospinal" received the concession to mine slate here. The roofing of the Solwaster church is made of this slate.

In August 1720, the lawyer Hauzeur obtained permission to exploit the slate quarries and coal mines in the communal forests of Sarto. In April 1773, a man named Sarem exploited the slate quarry located at a place called "Houlpai" in Solwaster.
