The impressive Protestant church, also called “Rabenau Cathedral”, is located directly on Londorf’s main street. Due to its memorable, dominant shape, the church has become a landmark of the landscape and of Rabenau beyond the local area.

The origins of the church go back to the middle of the 13th century as a fortified church built in the shape of a cross.

Due to its dilapidation, the church was demolished in 1857/58 and rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style between 1861 and 1864, with the old west tower remaining. The church was built from gray to almost black basalt rock, also known as lung stone, extracted from the Londorf quarry. The master builder was the Grand Ducal District Architect Dr. Carl Wilhelm Chr. Dieffenbach from Friedberg.

The nave consists of a central nave and two side aisles, which are separated from each other by four strong stone columns on each side. When you enter the church through the tower entrance, the first thing you see is the altar made of lungstone, to which three steps lead up. In the central nave, to the left of the central aisle, is the twelve-sided baptismal font carved from lungstone. The romantic organ with its 1,400 pipes is already 137 years old.

Of the three old bells, the oldest probably dates back to the 13th century.
