The fountain on the Kyritz market square – it is called “Bassewitzbrunnen” – is a beautiful addition to the historic city center. It refers to the Bassewitz legend and is a reminiscence of the pumps and water barrels that used to be there.

On June 16, 2007, the Bassewitz Fountain was inaugurated on the Kyritz market square as part of the 770th anniversary of the city of Kyritz.
The Bassewitz legend forms the basis for the design of the fountain. Image reliefs convey the themes of the city's history on three steles. These include: the Franciscan monastery, Father Döring, Carl Diercke, murder and manslaughter, member of the Hanseatic League and Kyritz an der Knatter. The group of figures depicted, three women with bowls from which water flows, forms the center of the fountain, which is surrounded by benches.

The "Bassewitz fountain" was inaugurated in 2007 based on a design by the artist Jan Witte-Kropius for the 770th anniversary of the town of Kyritz. The depiction of the brave Kyritz women who are said to have poured hot porridge over the head of the robber baron Bassewitz is a successful realization of the artist's idea and the Bassewitz legend.
