Friedrich Gottlob Keller (born June 27, 1816 in Hainichen; died September 8, 1895 in Krippen) revolutionized paper production with his invention of groundwood. This made it possible to produce paper inexpensively on an industrial scale. In Krippen (Saxon Switzerland) you can also follow in Keller's footsteps.

The sculpture "Endless Column" by the Belgian artist Stijn Ank has been standing within sight of the monument since August 2024 (as part of the purple path of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz). The sculpture represents a stylized stack of paper.

Friedrich Gottlob Keller, born here in Hainichen on June 27, 1816, developed the process of papermaking using groundwood in the 19th century, which is still used today, and thus laid the foundation for the industrial mass production of cheap paper. Heavily in debt, Keller had to sell his patent; industrial exploitation was carried out by others. Keller's achievements were only recognized late. He finally died highly honored on September 8, 1895 in Krippen (Saxon Switzerland), where you can also follow in his footsteps.

Since August 2024, the sculpture "Endless Column" by the Belgian artist Stijn Ank has stood within sight of the Keller fountain (as part of the purple path of the Cultural Capital Chemnitz). The sculpture depicts a stylized stack of paper and thus establishes a connection to Keller.
