The public observatory was founded by Martin and Ottilie Mayer (both died in 2016) and opened on the day of the total solar eclipse in August 1999. In recent years, the well-equipped observatory has been expanded to include a freely accessible astronomical pergola, which provides all visitors with celestial knowledge and experience.
