The oldest church built at this point was a small hall church made of iron stone. A choir was added a little later. A brick tower was built at this church in the 14th century. A three-sided closed choir and a nave were built in the 15th century. In the 16th century, two aisles were added and a hall church was created. In 1910 Caspar Franssen added a new sacristy and a new baptistery. In 1921 the church was restored by Joseph Cuypers.
At the end of 1944 the church was blown up, losing the tower, roof, vaults and a column.

St. Lambertus Church (Swolgen)Sint-Lambertus Church is the parish church of Swolgen and is located at Monseigneur Aertsstraat 6.The oldest church found on this site was a small hall church made of ironstone. A choir was added a little later. In the 14th century, a brick tower was added to this church. In the 15th century, a three-sided closed choir and a central nave were built. In the 16th century, two side aisles were added and a hall church was created. In 1910, Caspar Franssen had a new sacristy and baptistery added. In 1921, the church was restored by Joseph Cuypers.At the end of 1944, the church was blown up, losing the tower, roof, vault and a pillar.Restoration work began in 1952, with Jules Kayser providing the design. The nave was widened at the expense of the side aisles and the pillars were made slimmer. The late Gothic choir was restored to its original state and remnants of the original building were preserved in the pseudo-basilic nave. The church was also extended in length, making it almost twice as large and a new tower was built. The church was consecrated in 1953.In June 2007, numerous works of art were stolen from the church by burglars. Due to the break-in and other causes, St. Lambertus Church has lost 28 objects over the years that were part of the core collection of movable religious heritage in Limburg.
InventoryThe organ is a Vermeulen organ from 1955. The church has a Romanesque baptismal font, various statues of saints (Mary, Catherine, Bernardus, Agnes, Anthony Abbot) from around 1500, Anthony of Padua (17th century), Hubertus, Lambertus, crucifix and four evangelists (1st half of the 18th century). There are two bells from 1514. In the adjacent cemetery there is a grave cross from 1685 and the grave of the writer and poet Bertus Aafjes (1914-1993).
