The devil's beech here at Steinhof is probably the oldest known Süntel beech in the Deister-Süntel valley.

In expert circles it is considered the most beautiful tree of its kind. The short, twisted trunk has a typical bell-shaped crown. Its branches show serpentine and kinked growth.

Transplanted here from Hohenstein in Süntel in 1860, it served for a long time as a mother tree for offspring in the region. Since the devil's beech must have already been a certain size when it was transplanted, it could be around 180 years old today.
