South of the Strabrechtse Heide you will find the Keelven on the Somerense Heide. In the past, this was simply a large piece of heath that ran all the way from the Strabrechtse Heide to the Weerterbos via the Pan. As with many of those areas, this area has changed considerably. It was previously transformed into production forests for mining.

But when the mines closed, people started to care about nature again. They are now transforming those production forests into forests with all kinds of different types of trees and small heathlands with fens. They restored the fens according to the natural landscape, and this created the Keelven, along with a few other small fens.
