One of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol rises at the entrance to the Matscher valley near Schluderns and is called Churburg. The castle was first mentioned under the name "Curberch" in 1259 in a document of the Prince Bishop of Chur, Heinrich von Montfort, who also had it built around 1250.

Quaint, original decor, and extremely cozy. With a great, unusual beer selection and extremely friendly, knowledgeable service, it's been a worthwhile stop several times.
