The impressive Basilica del Pilar is, according to history books, the first church dedicated to Mary. On January 2, in the 40th year AD, the Blessed Virgin appeared on the banks of the River Ebro. Surrounded by angels from Jerusalem, she gave strength and faith to the apostle James the Greater and some converts. She spoke to them and asked them to build a shrine.
