The path that leads from Carona to the Laghi Gemelli Refuge winds in a zigzag manner through a beautiful fir forest that shelters from the sun. The slope, however, is high, so the climb is highly recommended for people with a fair amount of training and good technical equipment. After a couple of hours you cross path 213 which comes from the Fratelli Calvi refuge. Continuing on, you reach the dam of Lago Marcio (1841m) where you can catch your breath after the efforts of the climb. Along the entire shore of the lake you finally arrive at the Laghi Gemelli refuge (1968m). Here the polenta stop is a must. Once at the shelter, there are several options. You can decide to go down towards Carona by retracing the path 211 in reverse, or you can choose to continue and complete a much wider loop which, once you cross the dam of the lake of the same name, will lead to Lake Colombo (2046m). From here you reach the pass that overlooks the Valle dei Frati uphill (2300m) and continue for a short distance until you reach the Passo di Aviasco (2289m) where you begin to climb the hill. The path in some places is steep and slippery, winds through a stony ground with often technical but never too exposed sections. You need good shoes and a lot of attention, those who have no mountain experience better go back. Once you arrive at Lago dei Frati, you finally begin to descend into the woods, until you reach a crossroads: on the left, without any possibility of error, the path to Carona starts. The descent here is simple and relaxing. After crossing the stream, you pass through the lovely pasture of Pagliari and finally continue downhill along the carriage road to Carona, then returning to the starting point.
