The whole area and the mill are extensively restored and very nicely laid out. In the mill is the tourist information of the village Müden. Here also starts the hiking trail around the "Heidesee", which is actually an artificially created pond. Built in the years 1435-1438 in the style of a Lower Saxon farmhouse, the old water mill in Müden (Örtze) even at that time received its present appearance. It is one of the most romantic places in the Müden and couples can give themselves here in a very special atmosphere the yes-word.

Until the mid-sixties, a miller worked here on the mill operated by a large waterwheel. Later, the flour mill was extended by a sawmill, which were powered by so-called Francis shaft turbines. Until the 1950s, the sawmill was operated, the grain mill even to 1965. After the refurbishment of the mill from 1989-1997 are today in this historic building in addition to the tourist information also a library, a wedding room and showrooms. With the aid of the newly created circulation channel at the weir, fish and even small animals can migrate undisturbed into the higher waterways.

At the watermill there is also a herb garden and a meadow orchard.

Watermill as an energy producer

The smaller turbines installed in the outbuilding of the watermill today generate 7 kW, approx. 100-300 kW of electricity per day via a generator and ensure that the light never goes out in the Müden mill. The remaining energy is fed into the local grid.
