The early medieval fortification of Hof-Stauchitz is one of the most important castle sites in Saxony. The archaeological monument is severely threatened by plowing and has already lost considerable substance.
However, excavations in 2003 succeeded in revealing a multi-phase defensive structure that was gradually expanded to monumental dimensions. After many years of agricultural use, it has been largely leveled and is now only recognizable as a low elevation in the landscape.
