                    In the picturesque Veneto countryside, on the southern outskirts of Vicenza, rises Villa Rotonda, or simply called La Rotonda.
                    Bishop Almerico Capra, a high official at the court of Pope Pius IV and Pius V, had the villa built. He wanted to enjoy his retirement undisturbed and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the posturing of power and the intrigues at court. Palladio, the master of Renaissance architecture, designed and built La Rotonda, the most famous of his villas, from 1566 to 1569. Scamozzi completed the construction in 1591, after Palladio's death.

                          An absolute masterpiece by Palladio, easily accessible by bike from the center of Vicenza. The site is located along the Riviera Berica cycle path. A brief stop to admire the villa from the outside is recommended (access to the garden is subject to a fee and hours vary). Avoid peak hours on weekends, as it gets very busy.
