The triple flume marks a hydrographic watershed point. At this point on the crest of the Teutoburg Forest, the water catchment areas of the three rivers Rhine, Weser and Ems meet. The Rhine-Weser watershed, the Weser-Ems watershed and the Rhine-Ems watershed meet here. The point is located in Detmold in the district of Lippe, not far from the Grundnetzsender Bielstein and the Hermannsdenkmals. The three-flint stone made of Osning sandstone was inaugurated in 2009.

The Dreiflussstein connects the catchment areas of three large European rivers, the Ems, the Weser and the Rhine and acts as a point of intersection of the catchment areas and hints to help waters to a good condition and to protect intact water. It also recalls the importance of intact waters as a habitat for humans, flora and fauna.

The dreiflussstein consists of Osning sandstone from the Teutoburg Forest, which served as a building and stone for a long time until the end of the 20th century. Around the stone, the names of the river basins, which were also made of typical rock types for the individual regions, are grouped: Gildehauser sandstone from Bad Bentheim (Ems), Roter Wesersandstein from Solling (Weser) and Rhenish Slate (Rhine). Another element of the stone is historical cobblestones from Krummen Strasse in Detmold, which flank the stone. Furthermore, the three-flow t (t) should serve as (Ua) starting point for events and information for environmental topics.

At Dreiflussstein three hiking trails lead past: Lönspfad, Hartröhrenweg and Residenzweg.
