                The Ratzenscheid mine was first mentioned in a document in 1298. Originally, the main search for silver was made here. For this reason, King Adolf von Nassau pledged the "Bergwerk am Ratzenscheit" in 1298 to his cousins, the Counts of Nassau. The main yield consisted of lead ore containing silver, zinc blende and spate iron stone. In 1852 an underground steam engine was installed to retain water. In 1901 the mining of ores was stopped and in 1913 the mine was closed.
