At the inner-German border, the GDR border guards patrol on motorized vehicles or on foot along the “Colonel Path”. From 1966 onwards, the path was paved with concrete slabs. This meant that the border guards were able to reach the site more quickly with their vehicles, especially during a “border alarm”.
The control strip “K6”
closes towards
Federal Republic to the column path. It is designed as a six meter wide strip of earth to detect footprints. The border troops check the control strip several times a day for signs of escape attempts. They harrow it regularly and spray weed killer. (Source: Shield)
