Many of you have certainly already enjoyed it, the view from the Reichensteiner Viaduct between Mützenich and Kalterherberg. And if you haven't been there yet, you should definitely do it, whether on a bike or on foot. Because it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful spots on the Vennbahn cycle path in the area of the city of Monschau. From here you have a great view across the Ermesbach valley to the Vennhof area and on the other side to the Reichenstein monastery with its pond and the hillside forest of the Rur valley behind it.

The Reichenstein Viaduct between Mutzenich and Kaltenherberg.
The Vennbahradweg leads over the viaduct on the disused railway line from Aachen to Troisvierges Luxembourg.
The Vennbahn between Aachen and Troisvierges in the north of Luxembourg, with the unique Hohes Venn high moor in between, is one of the longest railway cycle paths in Europe at 125 kilometers.
It is almost symbolic of a moving part of Europe: Originally a connection between coalfields in the north and steelworks in the south, then an artery in the conflict zone of two world wars, then fell into oblivion to fill the cross-border region with life today. Cross-border in the truest sense of the word, because the cycle path changes more than a dozen times between Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. Sometimes you have French, sometimes Walloon and Eifel dialects and finally the Moselle Franconian language variety “Lëtzebuergesch” in your head!
