    Burgsittensen can probably look back on more than 1,000 years of history. A "Hoff to der Borch" (farm to the Borch) was first documented in 1316. Since 1591, the estate belonged to the noble Schulte family, whose original knightly seat was Horneburg.

            The estate was originally a knight's estate belonging to the Schulte von der Lühe family. In the 14th century, it replaced an old castle nearby, which was later converted into a cemetery. Caspar Detlev von Schulte eventually had the estate greatly expanded, incorporating many English influences. Since 1880, the estate has belonged to the Monastery Chamber of Hanover, which leases the buildings. This includes the former hunting lodge, which is located directly on the estate grounds (but looks more like a villa). Also interesting: the tenants of the hunting lodge are happy to offer help and answers to questions about the monastery estate via a notice board with their telephone number. In fact, you walk right through the complex!
