The White Dune (Baltā Kāpa) near Lielupe is an impressive place on the coast of Jūrmala, fascinating for its unique history and striking nature. The dune was formed when the Lielupe River changed its course in 1757 and the massive dune with its steep slopes and asymmetrical shapes was formed. Today it is a protected natural monument and offers impressive views over the coast and the sea - especially in frosty weather, when the coastline seems almost mystical.
The information boards here remind you that certain activities such as lighting fires or driving motorized vehicles on the dune are prohibited in order to protect the sensitive landscape. As you walk along here, you quickly realize why these protective measures are necessary: nature is shown here in its original, untouched form, and the steep slopes offer fantastic photo opportunities.
