      The "Old Canal". Completed under Ludwig I in 1846.
      Freiherr Heinrich von Pechmann, published the planning draft in 1832 and led the construction management.
      Under the influence of Leo von Klenze, the functional buildings were built in a unique simplicity.

      Up to 9,000 workers put the plans into practice "with their hands" - felled the trees with the ax in the then partly untapped landscape, dug the trench with a hoe and shovel, piled up the dams, put them down Foundations of the structures, opened up quarries, cut stones, brought them on site with horse-drawn carriages and put them together.
      My special respect to these people.

      I grew up in the south of Nuremberg, in the middle of the canal path, a few minutes' walk from the "Stone Bridge" - I still live today.
      And just a little further I come across the State Harbor of Nuremberg on the Main-Danube Canal.
