    The baroque church was built in the 18th century. The church tower in the style of neo-Gothic dates from 1863.

      The church is an elongated plastered building with a southern and northern porch, which was consecrated in 1766. In 1866, a neo-Gothic, richly structured west tower made of brick was added. The spacious interior has double galleries to the north and south and is completed by a cove ceiling from the time of construction, which is painted with ornaments and putti and was renewed in 1891 by the Oscar Foneweit workshop. A restoration took place in 2006-2008.

        Today's St. Mary's Church is the third church on the same site (city fire in 1473, the subsequent building fell into disrepair in the mid-18th century). Special features include the painted wooden ceiling (restored in 2006-2008), a Trinitarian depiction of heaven, the double galleries and the beautiful pulpit altar, which was renovated in 1961. The Buchholz organ was bought from the "New Church" in Berlin at the end of the 19th century. The church tower was rebuilt in 1866 and renovated in 1991. Five bells ring in it. Two of them are over 400 years old, the other three were recast after a major fundraising campaign in 2010.
        Part of the council pews have been preserved from a previous building. The council members' coats of arms and house marks give us an idea of their duties today.
